Cheese lasagna with whole wheat noodles; lettuce and spinach salad with cucumbers, baby carrots and radishes; and I ate the raisins.

Doesn’t look too bad. Was the lasagna hot?

No. My other comments were really more about embarrassing myself than they were about actually battling with the lunch ladies. The cafeteria manager runs a tight ship. Truth: I love eating with the children. I love participating with them. And the food is really not bad.

Every day is a lesson. There was the boy who decided he wanted to roll in the puddle on the blacktop; it was raining. When I saw him up close he had raindrops all over his face and bright green eyes and a big smile and he was loving life.

There was the six-year-old in the bathroom who’d taken a messy crap and got his sweatshirt cuffs all smeared with poop and I washed the cuffs of his sweatshirt and jacket and got him presentable again. (I didn’t do any actual wiping...) His teacher said, “If he can’t even clean himself up, imagine what a challenge writing is for him.”

There was the sixth grade girl who wanted help logging onto the Chromebook. Deeply troubled, deeply traumatized girl and we do not know what the source of the troubles is. She was rude, so I refused to help her. A couple of minutes later, she was polite, and remained so for the rest of the day.

There is the sixth grade boy who is widely regarded by the other teachers as a pathological liar and a trouble maker. Yesterday, I got active on him and he admitted that he was stressed out about his bad grades. I said, “Good. Now you’re talking real talk.” And I did not call his mother. Today, he sat with me at lunch.

And that’s just a sampler. Middle school and high school are a cake walk. Elementary school makes a teacher work.

you should write these down in a notebook somewhere. for.......... posterity. not that you would SHARE them, but they are ............ im not sure exactly what to call them, other than reminders of life lessons we should of already learned. a bit on the way of the decent thing to do. DECADES from now it would make for interesting reading.

i was telling one of the other guys where i work the other day about integrity. doing the right(decent) thing, because it is the right thing to do, even(because) when there is no one there to see.

this, what youre doing, is the TRULY rewarding part of getting the opportunity to work with children...........

Thank you. You are a good Oppo friend.

Is that a new profile picture?

I was reading about my ‘71 Vandura on Wikipedia and I realized that 1971 was the first year of that body style, third generation.

Kinja'd!!!

thanks.

its a picture of one of the yard trucks. its only jobs, are lift carry set down. its very handy when i do engine swaps here at the house.

those vans ran forever, and have a lot of options because of that. some even came with big blocks, and the large diesel engine. lots of possibilities for upgrading the cooling.
